Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites - Spanning three floors of Core Galleries, the museum tells the story of the Hoosier state, and features a year-round calendar of exhibits that dive deeper into Indiana art, science and culture. Constructed completely from Indiana materials — including limestone, sandstone, steel, brick and glass — the building itself is a work of art, with icons representing each of Indiana’s 92 counties integrated into its exterior walls. Step inside, and you’ll be invited to explore Indiana’s past, present and future through scientific, cultural, historical and art exhibits that help define our place in the world.

- Covered Wagon - Covered Wagon is a hands-on, interactive outreach program presented in the classroom by a team of trained Covered Wagon Volunteer Presenters. Each team has Covered Wagon kits that contain a miniature covered wagon, pioneer family, tools, household goods, and provisions. Students are presented with the same tough choices that a pioneer family moving from the Eastern United States to Indiana would have faced, as they learn which items will fit into their wagon and which must stay behind. All the items in the kits are historically accurate and examples of possessions a pioneer family might have owned. Covered Wagon is a great opportunity to bring the past into students' present.
- Education Trunks - Education Trunks give your students hands-on activities to help them learn about Indiana’s art, science and culture. Our interactive trunks include props like books, artifacts, posters and activities. Each trunk also includes a teacher’s manual. All trunks fulfill select Indiana Academic Standards. You may borrow trunks for a two-week period, which includes shipping time. All trunks are shipped on Monday and must be returned to the museum by Monday. The cost is $15 per trunk. All shipping charges are included. Call 317.232.1637 for more information or to reserve an education trunk.
